Boris Sveshnikov

Boris Sveshnikov

 Boris Sveshnikov was a Moscow based abstractionist.  He was arrested at age 19 for suspicious activities regarding eliminating Joseph Stalin.  After his release Boris returned to Moscow and became a painter/illustrator.  His style is referred to as Socialist Realism.  His work tends to be macabre and reveal tombstones and paranoid people.

Jules Breton

French Realist painter Jules Breton was born on May 1827.  His paintings are heavily influenced by the french countryside.  He was one of the best known French painters for his time.  He was also a recognized writer and poet.

Caspar David Friedrich

Caspar David Friedrich was a German Romantic Landscape painter.  This painting is called "cross". He created landscape paintings which reflected landscapes for there subject matter.  He rarely added other subjects into his artwork.

Franz Messerschmidt

Born in Germany Franz Messerschmidt mader bronze busts of extremely realistic and distorted facial expressions.  These expressions are usually connected to paranoid emotions that the artist felt.  All his work was completed in the early 18th century.

John Bacon

 Born in Southwalk, England John Bacon did sculptures from age 14.  He began working with porcelian at a very young age.  He also worked in stonework and marble carving. He was an 18th Century sculptor.

Kylo Chua


 


  Kylo Chua created a contemporary piece called “Will We Just Watch?” The sculpted artwork reveals a tsunami  flowing wildly into an active society. It is constructed out of 3-D glass and symbolizes both a natural and glossy feel. Kylo is a Phillipine born sculptor.

Marcel Duchamp

Completed in 1903, this peice is a ready made(made from found objects to give a new meaning). Duchamp was part of the Dada movement.  Duchamp was a French born sculptur/painter. He attended the Society of Independent Artists.

Mark Rothko

Rothko was a Russian born Jew who moved to New York City. He was born in 1903.  He explored many mediums but mainly focused on figuritive painting.  He attended the "New York School" in New York.
